On October 31, Kyiv will host the First International Conference «Mykolaiv — a city on the wave», dedicated to the prospects of sustainable recovery and systemic transformation of the city's economy on the basis of the «blue economy».

This was announced by the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych, they write NikVesti.

The organizers of the event are the Mykolaiv City Council with the participation of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

«The city of Mykolaiv, known as the «City on the Wave», is currently facing complex and changing challenges in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The city of Mykolaiv is one of the key Ukrainian cities targeted by Russia after the start of the full-scale invasion,» the organizers of the event write on the official website of the conference.

The event itself will be divided into blocks. At the first introductory block «The future of Mykolaiv, as we see it for future generations», the strategy of the city's development, new economic models due to the development of the «blue economy» and the current state of development of the city's General Plan will be discussed.

After that, in the announcement of the program of the event, a 20-minute performance of the «star guest» is planned, but who exactly is in question is not specified.

Next, the participants will talk about the revitalization of the Mykolaiv Shipyard. There are sites for small shipbuilding, parking for boats and yachts, a technological park complex, an open-air ship museum, office and residential buildings, as well as a theater and a cableway connecting both banks of the river. Architects propose to preserve and illuminate the cranes as a kind of «lighthouses and the center of the city».

Aqua Port is also planned to be discussed. It should be recalled that in the city development project, the authors proposed to implement the Aqua Port concept — a new embankment and Young Sailors' Club — on the lower embankment of Ingul. Berths for boats and yachts, public space should be located on the left bank. The construction of the Club of young sailors is planned. On the right bank there is a municipal yacht club with moorings on the water, children's sports schools, a hotel and a promenade open for walks.

Mykolaiv industrial park will also be discussed at the conference. We would like to remind you that in July 2024, an on-site meeting of the Committee on Economic Development was held in Mykolaiv. It discussed the creation of two industrial parks in the Mykolaiv region: the private «Techno Park Voznesensk» and the communal «Mykolaiv».

The third block will discuss in more detail the Development Strategy of the Mykolaiv City Territorial Community until 2027, the reconstruction of the city through innovations.

It is planned to discuss the issue of international cooperation in the reconstruction of Mykolaiv, the reflection of the city as a maritime region of Europe and the implementation of science for innovative solutions.

Industrial parks in the Mykolaiv region

In July 2024, an on-site meeting of the Committee on Economic Development was held in Mykolaiv. It discussed the creation of two industrial parks in the Mykolaiv region: the private «Techno Park Voznesensk» and the communal «Mykolaiv».

The villages of Novofedorivka and Berizky, Nova Odesa and Bashtanka also submitted their project proposals for the creation of parks.

And before that, in March 2024, the Mykolaiv industrial park Enerhiia was excluded from the official register due to the lack of work reports. Since 2018, it has been located in Korabelnyi district and occupied a plot of land with an area of 36 hectares.

The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, believes that the state should help create technological and industrial parks in the territories destroyed or damaged by the war in order to provide jobs and fill local budgets.

And the secretary of the Mykolaiv city council, Dmytro Falko, believes that the free economic zone will help open a «window of opportunity» for investors who will come to Mykolaiv and be ready to invest money in business.

At the same time, People's Deputy of Ukraine Oleksandr Pasichnyi believes that Mykolaiv needs to study the experience of creating industrial parks in order to attract investors and replenish the city budget in the future.
