On Thursday, 4 December, an exhibition dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the Mykolaiv regional organisation of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine was opened in the House of Artists.

A correspondent of NikVesti has visited the place.

This year's exhibition brought together 59 participants and included about 180 works. The exhibition aims to demonstrate the diversity of the culture of the Mykolaiv region: it presents various genres and techniques, from still lifes, portraits, landscapes, graphics, to plastic sculptures and ceramics.

In addition, as noted by the head of the Mykolaiv regional organisation of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, Artym Dmytro, the works also included paintings by artists of the Mykolaiv region who have already passed away to show the inextricable link between generations.

Artym Dmytro also added that today the organisation unites 52 active artists who participate in exhibitions, plein airs, and creative projects. Among them are artists awarded the honorary titles of «People's Artist of Ukraine», «Honoured Artist of Ukraine» and «Honoured Artist of Ukraine», winners of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize and more.

During the opening, the artists were presented with diplomas and commemorative awards.

A deputy of the regional council, Yevhen Horbunov, made a welcoming speech.

«55 years are the years of ups, victories, hopes, creative successes of many of our artists. Today we remember their names with gratitude, because they brought glory to our Mykolaiv region, and not only in the cultural space,» he said.

Olena Buberenko, Head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of the Regional State Administration, also congratulated the participants of the exhibition and personally presented the awards. Among the awards were those that could not be presented due to the security situation and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yurii Liubarov, Head of the Department of Culture of the Mykolaiv City Council, stressed that the city authorities are always ready to support cultural events and activities of artists in the region.

Chairman of the Board of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Kostiantyn Cherniavskyi said that in honour of the holiday, the works of Viktor Kovtun, People's Artist of Ukraine and head of the Kharkiv branch of the NUAU, were being transferred to the Vereshchahyn Mykolaiv Art Museum.

«It is extremely symbolic that today we are celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Mykolaiv regional organisation of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine on the eve of St Nicholas Day in Mykolaiv. After all, St Nicholas, who saved Mykolaiv region back in 2022, will certainly save Ukraine from any damn enemy,» he stressed.
