Summer Olympics-2024 in Paris: who of Mykolaiv athletes will compete

Today, July 26, the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games, which will last 16 days, open in Paris. Ukraine will be represented by 140 athletes in 26 sports. Two of them will officially represent the Mykolaiv region at the competition, but seven athletes who won licenses were born or lived and played for Mykolaiv for a long time, and therefore are connected to the region.
NikVesti tells which of the participants will compete for Olympic medals from the Mykolaiv Oblast this year.
The opening ceremony of the Olympics is scheduled on the banks of the Sena River at 20:30 Kyiv time. It will be broadcast by Pershyi and Suspilne Sport TV channels.
But the competitions themselves will begin tomorrow, July 27. Mykolaiv residents will compete in four sports: diving — Danylo Konovalov, Oleksii Sereda, Kseniia Bailo, Oleh Kolodii; fencing — Olha Harlan; rhythmic gymnastics — Valeriia Peremeta; Greco-Roman wrestling — Parviz Nasibov.
Oleksii Sereda: diving
18-year-old Oleksii Sereda from Mykolaiv was recognized as the best diver of 2023 according to European Aquatics. At the 2024 World Championships in water sports, he won a historic «bronze» (10 meters).
At the Olympics, the athlete obtained two licenses and will perform in individual competitions and 10-meter synchro.
Danylo Konovalov: diving
The 21-year-old diver represents the Mykolaiv region. This is the first Olympics in the athlete's life. Last year, the two-time European champion took first place in the nomination «Best Athlete» from Olympic sports.
In 2024, with a total of 349.55 points, he took 8th place at the World Championship in jumping from a 1-meter springboard.
Oleh Kolodii: diving
31-year-old Oleg Kolodiy will represent the Luhansk region at the Olympics. However, the athlete was born in Mykolaiv, where, in particular, he received a sports education, studying at the Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi Mykolaiv National University.
In May of this year, Oleg Kolodiy and Danylo Konovalov won gold in men's synchronized jumping.
Kseniia Bailo: diving
19-year-old Kseniia Bailo was born and began her sports career in Mykolaiv. Later she moved to Kyiv. The athlete joined the Ukrainian national team in 2020.
In 2021, the girl was awarded the title of master of sports after the European Championship in Budapest, where she, together with Oleksii Sereda, won the final of the competition, their jump from a 10-meter tower in the mixed team received the highest result.
Olha Kharlan: fencing
The owner of more than hundreds of medals and one of the most titled athletes of Ukraine, Olha Kharlan, who was born and started her career in Mykolaiv.
This year, the International Olympic Committee sent the athlete a separate invitation to participate in the 2024 Olympics. This happened after Olga Harlan was disqualified from the 2024 World Championships in Milan when she refused to shake the hand of Russian Anna Smirnova.
For Olha Harlan, this is already the fifth Olympics in a row. At the first three, the Mykolaiv saber player won four medals: «gold» and «silver» (in the team tournament) and two «bronze» (in the individual).
Valeriia Peremeta: rhythmic gymnastics
The 16-year-old gymnast will represent at this year's Mykolaiv Games. Valeriia is a pupil of the comprehensive children's and youth school «Peremoha», she is a bronze medalist in the Ukrainian national team.
Parviz Nasibov: Greco-Roman struggle
The athlete is from Azerbaijan and will represent the city of Zaporizhzhia this year. However, Parviz Nasibov lived and trained in Mykolaiv for a long time. As part of the Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestling team, he will compete in the 67 kg weight category. This is the second Olympics for the athlete.
In 2021, when he took «silver» at the Games, Parviz thanked the Mykolaiv region, where he began his sports career.
Oleh Kukharyk: kayaking and canoeing
A 27-year-old resident of Mykolaiv, a pupil of the Bashtanka Children's and Youth Sports School. Master of Sports of Ukraine, participated in the qualification tournament for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, but did not pass the license selection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he requalified for a single race, a long sprint, and two years later switched to a short 200m sprint.
At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he will participate in the 500-meter team race together with Ihor Trunov, Dmytro Danylenko and Ivan Semikin.
