Despite the fact that this year the city authorities of Mykolaiv refused to celebrate and did not install the traditional main Christmas tree, local businesses are participating in creating a New Year's mood in the city.
Earlier, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych said in an interview with Ukrinform that this year the city authorities decided to focus on safety and modesty in festive events.
«Since the beginning of the Great War, we have refused mass events and celebrations. This year there will be no citywide Christmas tree either. This is due to security requirements, and they won't understand us. There will be a small New Year's beauty in the Kazka children's town. Perhaps we will set up small booths around the city where they will sell mulled wine and sweets,» he said.
Despite this, local businesses are trying to create a festive atmosphere, and festive installations have already appeared on the facades of some establishments, attracting the attention of passers-by, giving a feeling of coziness even in cool winter weather. Some businesses install festive illumination at the entrance, creating photo zones where you can take memorable photos. Store windows are also filled with bright elements: these can be miniature Christmas trees, toys, decorative candles and artificial snow.
This year, the skating rink has reopened in the children's town «Kazka». Despite the absence of the main Christmas tree in the city, the skating rink has become a traditional place where Nikolaev residents can feel the winter atmosphere. The cost of a ticket for one person is 350 hryvnias per session. The skating rink is open from 10:00 to 20:00.
