As a result of a Russian attack in Odesa on 3 March, a transformer substation in the Kyivskyi district of the city caught fire. Experts estimated the environmental damage at over 415,000 hryvnias.

This was reported by the State Ecological Inspectorate of the South-Western District.

It is noted that the fire at the transformer substation led to the release of almost 122 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The information has been passed to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine to create a unified register of environmental damage caused by armed aggression.

For reference: Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a colourless, odourless gas at low concentrations.

Earlier it was reported that more than 90 private houses and apartments were damaged in Odesa as a result of the Russian attack on 3 March.

As a reminder, the Russian shelling of Odesa on 19 February caused over 5 million hryvnias in environmental damage. A substation, a children's clinic, a kindergarten and an apartment block were damaged.
