Borrell called on the EU countries to transfer ammunition to Ukraine

The countries of the European Union should urgently transfer ammunition to Ukraine. Due to their lack, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are experiencing difficulties at the front.

This was stated in the letter of the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, to the ministers of foreign affairs and defense of the bloc countries, Politico reports.

«Ukrainian soldiers have difficulties in the fight against the aggressor, because they do not have enough ammunition,» noted Josep Borrell.

He called on EU countries to support Ukraine in any possible way, including by searching for ammunition in their warehouses, by independent and joint purchases from European industry, by purchasing ammunition that is already available on the market, or by financing Ukrainian industry.

«I believe that together we can change the situation for Ukraine and the security of Europe, but this requires immediate action. Time is of the essence,» the diplomat added.

Borrell also called on the EU countries to disclose information about what they are doing at the bilateral level in the matter of supplying arms to Ukrainian defenders.

It will be recalled that the head of the «Servant of the People» faction, Davyd Arakhamiia, stated that Ukraine will have to carry out additional mobilization in the event of a lack of aid from the United States or its reduction.

He explained that in the absence of sufficient supply of weapons, people will have to be mobilized to close some areas of the front.

Earlier it was reported that Canada may transfer CRV7 air-to-surface missiles to Ukraine, which were already planned to be disposed of. Of the several hundred thousand such missiles that Canada still maintains, not all have a warhead.

Canada will also allocate 60 million Canadian dollars (about 45 million US dollars) to the Air Force Coalition of the Defense Contact Group of Ukraine. The money will go to support F-16 fighters in Ukraine. In particular, these funds will help obtain vital supplies and equipment for the F-16, such as spare parts, weapons, avionics and ammunition.
