Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin stated that about 2-3% of the bodies of dead Ukrainians returned as part of exchanges cannot be identified.

He told about this in an interview with UP.Zhyttia.

He stated that the remains are kept at the level of the forensic medical examination bureau until they are identified, but the remains of 2-3% of the dead Ukrainians cannot be identified.

«And these 2%-3% are those cases where we cannot get the results of the DNA examination, or we received the DNA examination from the deceased, but we do not have any matches. And this means that either there are no relatives, or the relatives have not yet submitted their DNA,» said Ihor Kuzin.

He added that unidentified bodies are kept until matches with relatives are recorded. He specified that the dead are stored in refrigerators throughout the country, and the identification process is long-term and may last more than a year.

It will be recalled that Ukraine was able to identify more than 2,800 bodies and body fragments of military personnel.
