As part of the project, master plans are being developed for Mykolaiv and Kharkiv with the prospect of assistance in the further implementation of initiatives. Jochen Flasbart announced the provision of financial support from Germany to the international project.
— It is a great honor for us to meet you here in Mykolaiv. Thank you for all the efforts you make to help the Ukrainian people, including the residents of our city. I hope our cooperation will be stronger and stronger. I am glad that it is an example of work with foreign partners for other communities of Ukraine, — said Mayor Olekandr Sienkevych.
Mr. Jochen Flasbart thanked the mayor for the invitation and emphasized how important it is to see with one's own eyes what the city is like.
— It is nice to be in Mykolaiv and to get to know the city, which during the war is planning its future. As you know, Germany provides comprehensive assistance to Ukraine, supporting key areas of the economy. I am glad that the people of Mykolaiv see reconstruction as a chance to change their environment to an even more innovative and sustainable one, — Jochen Flasbart said.
Oleksandr Sienkevych told the guests about Mykolaiv, the security situation in the city, as well as the challenges that residents have to overcome during wartime. Lack of a centralized supply of drinking water, difficult business conditions, shelling by the occupiers.
— We don't want to be a city that asks for help. Together with our partners, we are working to strengthen the transparency and openness of Mykolaiv, to make it attractive for investments, which will not only ensure recovery, but also contribute to the creation of new jobs, the development of industry, and the construction of new facilities. And therefore, the improvement of the living conditions of the community and the return home of those who left because of the war, —Oleksandr Sienkevych noted.
We will remind that Germany plans to halve the federal aid to cover the costs of reception and integration of refugees.
