As of February 2024, 1,759 children have been orphaned by the full-scale Russian invasion.
This was stated by the Head of the National Social Service, Vasyl Lutsyk, in an interview with Radio Liberty.
«For almost two years (the interview was held in February, note) we have 13,338 children left without parental care. Of them, only 1,759 children are those who became orphans as a result of military operations,» said Vasyl Lutsyk.
In addition, after February 24, 2022, 685 children received the status of «deprived of parental care» due to the fact that their parents remained in the occupation. Another 12 children are temporarily deprived of parental care because their parents are in captivity.
«We assign this status, but we hope that when the parents return, those children will return to the family,» explained Vasyl Lutsyk, adding that «a significant part» of the children are taken care of by relatives.
We will remind you how in Odesa, during a night attack on Saturday, March 2, a Russian drone hit a nine-story building, destroying one of the entrances. In the evening of the next day, the rescuers finished the search and rescue work. As a result of this strike, 12 people died, including 5 children.
