The youth of Mykolaiv, together with representatives of the city council, visited the Kingdom of Denmark last week as part of the «Democratic integration of youth» project to exchange knowledge and strategies in the field of youth policy.
According to the correspondent of NikVesti, who was part of the delegation, the group consisted of 11 representatives of the city council and the city's youth.
The Mykolaiv delegation visited three communes — Aalborg, Odense and Billunn. In each city, project participants got to know representatives of municipalities and mayors of communes.
In Aalburg, the people of Mykolaiv got to know the mayor Thomas Kastrup-Larens and learned about the peculiarities of the activities of youth organizations. Also, the members of the delegation, together with representatives of Danish youth centers, discussed the problems faced by Ukrainian youth during the war.
Diana Kisiliak, a representative of the Public Organization «Progressive Mykolaiv», noted that this visit inspired her to implement new ideas in the work of their youth organization.
«Denmark shows an example of a good life for children and young people, in which they feel that they are listened to, respected and valued. No initiative can be implemented without the participation of young people, their thoughts and wishes. I saw how democratic values can work effectively in practice, and now we will try to adapt some of these approaches in our activities,» said the girl.
The Mykolaiv delegation also visited the city of Odense, where they visited the municipality, the Red Cross House and the Ungdomshuset youth home.
During the visit to these locations, the youth and representatives of the Mykolaiv City Council were visited by the mayor of Odense, Peter Rahbek Yuel, who spoke about the activities of the city municipality. The delegation also visited the building of the Red Cross and got acquainted with the peculiarities of the work of the humanitarian organization in Denmark.
In the youth space of Ungdomshuset, the Mykolaiv delegation evaluated a bunch of interesting and useful locations for young people. It was also in this building that Mykolaiv residents met the deputy mayor of the Department for Children and Youth Affairs, Suzanne Crowley.
The representative of the active youth of Mykolaiv, Karina Pyshenko, said that she liked the youth space, because it was designed both for youth recreation and for the development of various hobbies.
«I really liked the youth space «Ungdomshuset», because it is designed not only for non-formal education, but also for recreation of young people. Pupils or students can simply gather and decide for themselves how to spend their free time, or develop certain hobbies or just spend time with friends,» added the delegation member.
The final stop of the Mykolaiv delegation was the city of Billund, where they visited the Coc Mindful organization founded by the Billund municipality and the Lego Foundation. Here they discussed the convention on the rights of the child and decided what activities the youth can organize for children in the city of Mykolaiv.
We will remind, three communities of Mykolaiv Oblast received excavators and loaders from Denmark.
