Russians shell Odesa city centre: one of the oldest hospitals in the city damaged

Photo: Odesa City CouncilAs a result of the nighttime shelling of the historic centre of Odesa by Russian troops, significant destruction was recorded in the city. Residential buildings, one of the oldest medical institutions and a university building were damaged.
According to the mayor of the city, Hennadii Trukhanov, the strikes hit a densely populated residential area. Fires broke out in several buildings and the extent of the damage is still being assessed by experts. People who need to be relocated have been offered assistance in applying for rental compensation.
One of the facilities that suffered the most was the city's infectious diseases hospital, which is not only a medical facility but also an architectural and historical monument of national importance. The blast wave smashed more than 100 windows and damaged doors in four buildings of the hospital, said Hennadii Trukhanov.
The Art and Graphic Faculty of the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynskyi also sustained serious damage. In addition, the shelling hit an inclusive centre where they worked with children with special needs and held canine therapy classes. The building of a kindergarten located nearby was also damaged.
