The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, has instructed the municipal services to block vehicle access to the sand spit in the Namyv neighbourhood. People go there to relax by the water, but some drivers drive their cars right onto the shore.
The mayor made this announcement on 5 October during a staff meeting at Mykolaiv City Council, according to NikVesti.
Oleksandr Sienkevych noted that residents of the neighbourhood had approached him with complaints about cars driving onto the sandy spit and along the shore.
According to him, the area near the spit has already been tidied up by staff from the «Mykolaiv Parks» municipal enterprise, so vehicle access there needs to be restricted.
The mayor instructed the Zavodskyi District administration, together with the Department of Municipal Services and the «Mykolaiv Parks» municipal enterprise, to consider how to physically block vehicles from accessing the shore.
«Perhaps we need to place concrete blocks along the road there to prevent people from driving onto the beach. Perhaps we need to install some second-hand posts there to block vehicles from accessing the beach,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
He also emphasised that the aim is to make the area more pleasant for people who come there to relax.
It should be noted that previously, a road sign prohibiting motor vehicle traffic was to be installed at the entrance to the sand spit in the Namyv neighbourhood of Mykolaiv.
It should be recalled that in Mykolaiv, the area of the protective spit – which acts as a hydraulic structure and protects the Namyv neighbourhood from flooding – is shrinking.
It was also reported that Mykolaiv City Council published a project to reinforce the shoreline in the Namyv neighbourhood, developed in 2020, on a digital platform for investment opportunities. The estimated budget for the project is 40.1 million hryvnias.
