The municipal institution Mykolaiv Zoo announced 4 tenders for the supply of feed for animals during 2025 for the total amount of 8 million 56 thousand 123 hryvnias.
This is evidenced by the data of the public procurement system ProZorro, they write NikVesti.
With these funds, the customer will purchase about 264 tons of meat, vegetables and fish.
Mykolaiv Zoo will spend the most, 3 million hryvnias, on beef for the first half of 2025. From January 1, 2025 to June 30, the contractor must supply the customer with 20,542 kilograms of meat. The customer plans to spend another 525 thousand hryvnias on 7 thousand 763 kilograms of chicken for the whole of 2025.
Mykolaiv Zoo plans to spend 2.3 million hryvnias on vegetables and fruits for animals. With these funds, more than 216 tons of different vegetables will be purchased for the animals for the entire year 2025: fodder beets, table beets, carrots, onions, garlic, cabbage, and celery.
20 tons of fish products will cost the Mykolaiv Zoo roughly 2 million hryvnias. For these funds, the contractor will supply products to the customer throughout the year. Among the fish that the zoo plans to order to feed the animals are: ketu, pollock, herring, whiting, flounder and hake.
Bird flu in the Mykolaiv Zoo
We will remind that cases of bird flu were recorded in the Mykolaiv Zoo, due to which the department of ornithology was closed to visitors. Studies have shown the presence of avian influenza virus type A1 subtype H5. Later, the zone of infection spread to the entire territory of the zoo, and a buffer protective zone with a radius of 3 kilometers was established around the epizootic center. The surveillance zone covered the territory within a radius of 10 kilometers.
On September 24, during the regular meeting of the state emergency anti-epizootic commission, the problem of bird flu was resolved. Quarantine was introduced in the zoo, disinfection and cleaning of enclosures in which bird flu was detected was carried out. Some enclosures were fenced with tape.
In the middle of October , during inspections, no sick or suspected cases of bird flu were found at the Mykolaiv Zoo. Currently, preventive measures are still being carried out on the territory.
Food problems in the Mykolaiv Zoo
It is worth noting that in September 2022, Mykolaiv Zoo collected funds for animal feed through the efforts of those who care. At that time, it was necessary to collect about 200 thousand hryvnias to provide food for the inhabitants of the zoo.
Also, with the beginning of a full-scale war, Ukrainians began to buy online tickets to the zoo in order to support the institution. At that time, the city was under constant shelling, people could not visit the zoo.
In April 2023, at one of the commissions of the Mykolaiv City Council, he reported that the institution has significant underfunding and the need for money for food for animals is covered by less than 50%.
