Egypt will no longer accept grain exported by Russia from the occupied Ukrainian territories

Egypt will no longer accept grain exported by Russia from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Instead, Egypt intends to increase imports from Ukraine.

This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made this statement during a conversation with Zelenskyy. In return, Ukraine is ready to engage with Egypt in the field of military-technical cooperation, the Ukrainian president noted.

The day before, on 2 April, Russian President Putin, during a meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister, stated that the Kremlin intends to create a «grain and energy hub» in Egypt.

Reuters reported that in response to Putin’s proposal, the Egyptian representative noted that the country «welcomes Russian initiatives», but no specific details were disclosed.

It is worth recalling that in 2025, Russia seized around 2 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain and sold it in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
