Plans are in place to renovate the window sills at the «Nadiia» sports complex in Mykolaiv. The cost of the work is estimated at 392,000 гривень.

This is according to data from the Prozorro system, as reported by NikVesti.

The tender was announced on 22 October by the Department of Physical Culture and Sport of the Mykolaiv City Council. It concerns routine repairs to the window reveals at the sports complex.

According to the technical specifications, the contractor must seal 252 metres of gaps around the windows, install moisture-proof tape and remove the old decorative corner beads.

There are also plans to cover 125.6 square metres of the window reveals with plasterboard, fill them with filler and paint them. In addition, the installation of 37 metres of plastic window sills is included. The replacement of the windows themselves is not specified in the scope of works.

The estimated cost of the renovation is 392 thousand гривень. Bids from contractors will be accepted until 7 November, and the tender is scheduled for 9 November. The renovation is due to be completed by 18 December 2026.

How the «Nadiia» sports complex in Mykolaiv was renovated

It should be noted that the «Nadiia» sports complex was built in 1981. Renovation work on the building began back in 2018. At that time, the Capital Construction Department signed a contract with the company «Golden-Bud» worth 14.6 million hryvnias. The contractor was to repair the roof, the heating system and insulate the façade.

However, as early as October 2018, the sports school was flooded by rain due to the roof being left open during the renovation. Water seeped into the main basketball arena and damaged the parquet flooring.

Cracks soon appeared in the flooring. Roman Bohin, then head of the capital construction department, stated that he did not see anything critical in the situation. Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor Yurii Stepanets reported that the city authorities did not plan to make any claims against the contractor. In November of that year, work began on removing the damaged parquet flooring. Due to the repairs, the basketball players were unable to train or play matches in their own arena. Meanwhile, the repair period was extended from two to five months — until the end of March 2019.

In 2019, it emerged that completing the refurbishment would require significantly more money than originally planned. Following adjustments to the project, its cost rose from 17.5 to 42.5 million hryvnias. The Capital Works Department explained this by stating that additional work, which had not been included in the original project, had been identified during the refurbishment. In particular, it became necessary to replace some of the windows, external doors and the drainage system, as well as to refurbish the toilets.

In August 2019, the new tender for the refurbishment of the sports complex was won by the company «Mykolaivbudmontazh», which offered to carry out the work for 33.4 million hryvnias. However, no contract was signed at that time. Following a repeat procurement process on 1 October 2019, a contract was signed with the same company for 34.6 million hryvnias. That same year, the Capital Construction Department planned to spend a further 2.1 million гривень on drawing up the design and estimate documentation for the building’s subsequent refurbishment.

The renovation work continued in 2020. The sports complex’s roof was insulated, a drainage system was installed, the plinth and façade were insulated, the paving around the building was partially restored, and the men’s and women’s toilets were refurbished. The contractor also replaced some of the windows on the façade and installed decorative 3D panels.

In October 2020, Hryhorii Patoka, head of the capital construction department, reported that around 18 million hryvnias had already been spent on the renovation of «Nadiia». Approximately the same amount was still required to complete all the planned works.

At that time, the city council planned to complete the refurbishment in 2021. In particular, the side and rear sections of the building still needed to be insulated, the roof of the single-storey annexe needed to be repaired, and the heating system needed to be upgraded.

In November 2024, it emerged that the city authorities had drawn up a new project for the major refurbishment of the «Nadiia» sports school, costing 115 million hryvnias. The project was submitted to the DREAM state system to seek funding. It involved insulating the building, replacing the heating system and landscaping the surrounding area.

At that time, the city was prepared to allocate 30 million hryvnias, which covered only 26.8 per cent of the required funding. The remainder was to be raised from donors.
