A man from Kharkiv, who collected «donations» for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and then spent them on online casinos, will be tried for fraud. He is suspected of defrauding more than 20 people and taking possession of almost 150,000 hryvnias.
This was reported by the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, in 2022, a 39-year-old resident of Kharkiv, under the guise of a volunteer, published announcements on social networks about collecting money, supposedly for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
«Benefactor» collected money from caring Ukrainians for a drone, bulletproof vests, walkie-talkies, helmets, a generator, batteries, etc., the report says.
It is noted that the businessman manipulated loud headlines, such as «for the fighters who stand near Kharkiv», «for the soldiers who defend Bakhmut».
According to law enforcement officers, he did not transfer the money received from benefactors to the needs of the Ukrainian army, but appropriated it. It was established that he spent the money on online casino games.
«In total, the man from Kharkiv defrauded more than 20 citizens. The total amount that the fraudster took possession of is almost 150,000 hryvnias,» the prosecutor's office said.
It will be recalled that in Dnipro, law enforcement officers exposed the operation of a powerful fraudulent call center in which money was stolen from the accounts of Ukrainians working in Poland.
