In the Mykolaiv region, a man lost 65 thousand hryvnias while trying to get fictitious financial assistance.
As reported by the police of the Mykolaiv region, a 45-year-old resident of the Bashtan community in the Mykolaiv region contacted them. The man said that in one of the social networks he saw an announcement about the possibility of receiving financial assistance. He clicked on the link and entered his bank card details. After some time, the man received a notification that 65,000 hryvnias had been debited from his account.
Investigators have started criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine «Fraud». The sanction of the article provides imprisonment for up to eight years.
Law enforcement officers remind citizens to be as vigilant and careful as possible.
«Trust information only from official websites of state bodies when it comes to any social benefits. By clicking on the link that offers to receive funds in the form of assistance and filling out the application or questionnaire, you have reached the section where you are asked to enter bank card data (its number and validity period, PIN code, CVV2/CVC2 codes, passwords) — stop and leave this page, even if it resembles a well-known website of a bank or other institution. This is so-called phishing — a web resource that lures payment card details under the guise of providing non-existent services,» the police emphasized.
If you or your relatives, relatives, friends or acquaintances have become victims of scammers, call 102 immediately.
Earlier, the police reported that fraudsters send social media users messages about non-existent payments or assistance. They offer to follow a link that leads to phishing sites that look like real government sites.
