At the Ukraine Recovery Conference held in Berlin, a photo exhibition about the destroyed Ukrainian cultural heritage Through the Lens: Culture in the Whirlwind of War was presented. Some of these shots were made by journalists of the Mykolaiv publication NikVesti.
This was reported by the NikVesti correspondent.
It is known that the conference on the restoration of Ukraine is being held in the capital of Germany on June 11-12. During this time, representatives of different countries will be able to see the works of 65 Ukrainian photographers and journalists, which depict destroyed cultural objects: churches, cultural centers, theaters, libraries, etc.
One of them is the photo of the «Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin» (Kyselivka village, Mykolaiv region) by the editor-in-chief and journalist of NikVesti Kateryna Sereda and «Mykolaiv Art Academic Drama Theater» by NikVesti photographer Serhii Ovcharyshyn.
The Institute of Mass Information reminds that the photos were taken as part of a joint project with UNESCO.
Thus, according to Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, who represents UNESCO in Ukraine, this project emphasized the important role of journalists in documenting the destruction in Ukraine, as well as in the recovery process.
«In order to restore the country, we must be informed about the impact of the war on culture, education and science, and for this, the support of a strong media sector in Ukraine is important,» she said.
In turn, IMI director Oksana Romaniuk called the photo exhibition at the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine symbolic, as it «conveys the resilience, courage and hope of the Ukrainian people in extremely difficult conditions.»
«These are not just pictures — they are striking stories about communities that are being rebuilt, about lives that are being restored, about terrible Russian war crimes. The photo exhibition of IMI and UNESCO aims to provide a powerful visual accompaniment to the discussions and decisions adopted at the conference, reminding the participants of the human faces behind politicians and strategies,» shared Oksana Romaniuk.
We will remind that in Mykolaiv, in the renewed shelter near the House of Fleet Officers, volunteers organized the exhibition «2 years: the price of freedom» for the anniversary of the full-scale war.
