A shelter for people who suffered from domestic or gender violence was opened in Mykolaiv

A shelter was opened in Mykolaiv, where victims of domestic or gender violence can receive comprehensive help and shelter.
Mykolaiv City Council reports this.
In the shelter, citizens will be able to receive socio-psychological, medical and legal assistance, as well as safe temporary shelter for a period of several weeks to three months.
For those who have experienced violence, conditions have been created for a sense of comfort and safety. The bedrooms are equipped with beds, a total of 17 people can stay in one room at the same time: 12 adults and 5 children. The shelter also has three bathrooms, one of which is for people with disabilities. In addition, people will have the opportunity to use washing machines, dryers and a kitchen with all the necessary appliances and dishes. Also, the shelter will have a rest room with play areas for children.
Social work specialists work around the clock at the shelter and are ready to provide assistance to victims. The center also has a full-time psychologist.
The opening of the facility was attended by Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv Anatoly Petrov, Director of the Humanitarian Response Department of the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine — UNFPA Ukraine Shoko Arakaki, UNFPA representative in Ukraine Massimo Diana, representatives of the national police and public organizations.
«This object is quite important for Mykolaiv, because today the psychological and social condition of families has significantly worsened and we often observe manifestations of domestic violence. We have prepared personnel, have undergone training, cooperate with various structures related to work with domestic violence, and are ready to receive people. In order to ensure the life and health of those who suffered, we are ready to provide service and social services,» said Anatolii Petrov.
The establishment of the facility was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine, the Mykolaiv City Council, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine with the financial assistance of the Government of Great Britain and the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Aid within the framework of the project «Cities and Communities Free from Domestic Violence».
