Yurii Liubarov, head of the Mykolaiv Department of Culture, hopes that a museum dedicated to the totalitarian period will be established in the city.
He announced this during a live broadcast on Facebook, according to NikVesti.
According to him, the exhibition could include dismantled monuments from the Soviet era, which are currently stored at the regional local history museum.
«Since 2014, many monuments have been relocated, some have been demolished, and some, unfortunately, have been destroyed as a result of illegal explosions. Such incidents have also occurred. At the same time, almost everything that was managed to be collected has been transferred to the regional local history museum. These exhibits are stored there, and we hope that in time a museum of the totalitarian period will be established, as is already the case in many countries and some cities in Ukraine. Work in this direction is ongoing, and the relocation of individual monuments is still planned, as compliance with legal requirements continues,» said Yurii Liubarov.
As a reminder, during the full-scale war, around 40 buildings in Mykolaiv that have protected status and are cultural heritage sites were damaged. According to Yurii Liubarov, no new damage to cultural heritage sites resulting from shelling in Mykolaiv has been recorded in 2026. At the same time, work is continuing on the restoration of previously damaged buildings.
