On 5 April, an exhibition in memory of the artist Serafyma Sienkevych, dedicated to her 85th birthday, opened in the exhibition hall of the Mykolaiv branch of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
This was reported by NikVesti.
Friends, colleagues and admirers of the artist’s work gathered for the opening of the exhibition. During the evening, those present recalled not only Serafyma Sienkevych’s creative career, but also her community work and contribution to the development of Mykolaiv’s artistic life.
During the event, Nataliia Sapak, a PhD candidate in art history, read out an archive article about the artist, published in the newspaper «Pivdenna Pravda» in 1979. Serafyma Sienkevych’s colleagues and friends remembered her as a talented artist, an active community figure and a person who brought the creative community together.
The memorial evening also featured performances by Mykolaiv poets Leonid Rzhepetskyi and Arkadii Surov, who read poems dedicated to the artist.
The exhibition was organised by Serafyma Sienkevych’s son, the artist and sculptor Yaroslav Riasnyanskyi.
«Paintings, if no one sees them, grow sad, fall ill and die. But when they are displayed, they live. As long as the paintings live, so does the artist who painted them,» he said.
The exhibition in memory of Serafyma Sienkevych can be viewed from Monday to Thursday until 3 pm in the exhibition hall of the Artists’ House at 96 Tsentralnyi Avenue.
As a reminder, on Wednesday, 6 April, a photography exhibition by Anastasia Bakunova — a singer with the M. Kulish Kherson Regional Academic Music and Drama Theatre — opened at the Mykolaiv Academic Artistic Drama Theatre.
