A soldier shot a commander in the Mykolaiv region: an investigation is underway

In the village of Bereznehuvate in the Mykolaiv region, a serviceman shot the deputy company commander, after which he shot himself.

This information was confirmed by the head of the Mykolaiv specialized prosecutor's office in the field of defense of the Southern region Andrii Kliopov in a comment to the correspondent of NikVesti.

The incident happened on the evening of January 7 around 9:00 p.m. According to the specialized prosecutor's office, the company sergeant shot the commander 6 times with his own machine gun.

«Unfortunately, the information has been confirmed. In the urban-type village of Bereznehuvate, a serviceman, a sergeant, fired about 6 shots from a machine gun attached to him at the deputy company commander. A visit was made to the place for inspection, witnesses were questioned. We are finding out,» Andrii Kliopov said.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out by the Investigative Department of the Mykolaiv Oblast General Prosecutor's Office, the Mykolaiv Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Defense of the Southern Region carries out procedural management.

Currently, criminal proceedings have been opened under the qualification of Article 1, Part 115 «Deliberate murder». The investigation is ongoing.

Loud murders of military personnel in the Mykolayiv region

In August 2022, ,it became known about the death of the battalion commander of the Mykolaiv 36th separate brigade of marines named after Rear-Admiral Mykhailo Bilynskyi, Major Yevhen Chornokon. At that time, it was reported that the soldier had died while performing combat missions.

Later, information emerged that the combatant was killed by a drunken soldier, Valentyn Handebura, who shot the officer with a submachine gun. In February 2023, the Centralnyi District Court of Mykolaiv found Handebura innocent of premeditated murder, which was reported by Prestupnosti.NET in April.

The prosecutor's office did not agree with this decision and filed an appeal. In June 2023, by the decision of the Mykolaiv Court of Appeal, soldier Valentyn Gandebura was found guilty of the murder of Yevhen Chernokon.
