The SSU detained agents of the military intelligence of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region. The married couple and their accomplice collected data on the location of Ukrainian troops and passed the information on to the Russians.

This is reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the suspects collected the coordinates of the places of the largest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian defenders. If the agents found a military facility, they tried to find out the number of soldiers and types of weapons available there.

After spying, they prepared «reports» for their head of the Russian intelligence agency group. He turned out to be a relative of the couple from the Kherson region, who at the beginning of the full-scale war went to cooperate with the Russians, and after the liberation of part of the territory of the region fled to Krasnodar (Russia).

«While on the territory of the Russian Federation, he acted under the leadership of a personnel officer of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (better known as the GRU). On the instructions of a Russian special agent, he remotely recruited his brother and his wife from the Kherson region, as well as a local resident,» the law enforcement officers reported.

It is noted that later the agents' spouses tried to «get to ground» and moved to Odesa under the guise of immigrants from the Kherson region.

The investigators informed the detainees about suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 111 «Treason committed under martial law»;
  • Part 3 of Article 114-2 «Unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement or placement of the Armed Forces or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law.»

They face from 12 years of imprisonment to life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

We will remind, two former police officers are accused of treason. During the temporary occupation of the Kherson region, they worked in illegal law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
