A Russian mercenary is suspected of killing a civilian in occupied Oleshky: the case was referred to the court

At the beginning of this year, a 68-year-old local resident was killed in the temporarily occupied Oleshky. The police identified the suspect in the murder, he turned out to be a mercenary of the Russian military formation. The case was referred to the court, the suspect faces life imprisonment.
This was reported to the communications department of the police of the Kherson region.
As the law enforcement officers of the Kherson region found out, the suspect was a 27-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don, a soldier of the «Kherson» military unit of the «Redut» private military company.
As reported by the department, law enforcement officers found information about the murder in one of the Telegram channels. After that, police and SSU officers conducted an investigation and established the circumstances of the crime. On January 10, 2024, three representatives of Russian military formations were moving along Oleshok Street when one of them opened fire chaotically. At the sound of shots, a local resident came out, after which an inebriated Russian soldier pointed a weapon at a civilian and fired at least six shots, fatally wounding the man.
It is noted that the indictment has now been approved by the regional prosecutor's office and sent to the court for consideration. The suspect was informed in absentia that he was suspected of violating the laws and customs of war, causing intentional homicide. He faces 10 to 15 years behind bars or life imprisonment.
It was previously reported that police investigators completed the investigation into the murder of a 53-year-old resident of the Snihurivka district of the Mykolaiv region, who was there during the occupation and had a Ukrainian position. He transmitted information about the movement of Russian equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for which he was shot by the Russian military.
