Mechanised street cleaning has resumed in Mykolaiv, though not yet across the whole city due to wet roads.

Vitalii Shevchenko, director of the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig», spoke about this in a comment to NikVesti.

As is known, from 1 January 2026, mechanised street cleaning in Mykolaiv was transferred to the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig». At the time, Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Mykolaiv Housing and Utilities Department, explained that the changes were due to the fact that the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig» had «proven itself» in the mechanised cleaning of streets and roads.

«Cleaning has resumed. The machinery is currently in operation, but only in dry weather and only on those main roads where safety conditions permit. Manual cleaning is carried out there first, after which the machinery completes the work. For the time being, work is not taking place across the whole city, as weather conditions do not allow everything to be cleaned at once. As you can see, there is rain and high humidity, so we cannot carry out cleaning everywhere at the moment,» said Vitalii Shevchenko.

Vitalii Shevchenko clarified that Heroes of Ukraine Avenue, as well as other sections of the M-14 motorway, are not being cleared, as they fall under the remit of the Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service rather than the «ELU Avtodorig» Road Maintenance Department.

It should be recalled that in August, the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council, on its second attempt, supported the launch of mechanised street and road cleaning using equipment purchased for the city with state budget funds. It is noted that cleaning with this equipment will reduce expenditure from the local budget by a third.

We would also like to remind you that there are plans to officially assign new functions to the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig» — ranging from the demolition of dilapidated buildings to the maintenance of areas adjacent to residential buildings.

The equipment intended for these tasks was provided to the company as part of aid from the Japanese organisation JICA. It is currently being used at a construction waste processing site, where waste has accumulated as a result of Russian shelling of the city, but it is also suitable for demolition and clearing work.
