The management of the Ternopil Regional Children's Library refused to issue books to a 7-year-old migrant boy from Kharkiv without a deposit to ensure that they would not be damaged.
Kateryna Posohova, a former journalist from Kharkiv, told about this on her Facebook page. The situation arose with her son.
Kateryna has been living in Ternopil with her son Svyatoslav for two years. The 7-year-old boy goes to the local school and the local library, where during this time there were no complaints about the child. During one of these visits, they were advised to contact the regional library.
However, after learning that they were immigrants, they agreed to give books to read only on the condition of paying a deposit of 600 hryvnias.
«Here we learned that the child in Ternopil is «not his own», but what books can be for those who are not his own? We were billed 600 hryvnias for the 2 selected books (old and in shameful condition) on the season ticket. This is, like, a pledge, because there is no trust in us. We were genuinely surprised. Why did they hear all this about «you can write «glory to russia», «people like you have already stolen many books from us». But what are we? We are officially registered in the city, we work, we study - the child is in a local school, he has excellent results. To say that Sviat was upset is an understatement. They give out books to children without problems here, but not to him. An hour-long conversation about the inadmissibility of discrimination. The deputy headmistress gives up — books are given on a general basis, but the mood is spoiled,» said Kateryna.
When the next time the woman came to hand in the books and get new ones, the administration of the institution once again declared that they did not trust the immigrants and threatened to call the police.
«Read it. We come to deliver — on time, the books are intact. The first thing the librarian says is that we won't give you any more books without a deposit. Why? Talk to the director — that's what was written on your form. Then the conversation continued again with the director, her deputy. Once again we hear all the dogmas of the world about immigrants who cannot be trusted no matter how long they live in Ternopil. I try to calmly appeal to the Constitution, where all citizens are equal, etc. In response, either pay, or leave, or call the police. Only the cleaning lady doubted the adequacy of the administration's actions among the employees — she asked another employee in a whisper whether they were behaving properly in the library. Of course, they say. Respectable heads of the library have their own front...» added the woman from Kharkiv.
Earlier in Mykolaiv, a man started insulting women who were communicating with each other in Ukrainian.
As you know, this is not the first case when locals in Mykolaiv are insulted for using the Ukrainian language in everyday life. The other day, such a situation occurred in the city center, where a woman began insulting a passerby for speaking in Ukrainian.
Later, the police started criminal proceedings on the fact of violating the equality of citizens.
Language ombudsman Taras Kremin also reacted to the situation, saying that such discrimination is not typical in Ukraine.
Let us also emphasize that as of today, the number of people who speak Ukrainian in everyday life, in particular, in Mykolaiv, has become a record for the years of Ukraine's independence.
