In the factory district of Mykolaiv, the renovation of a dormitory for displaced persons is underway. The work is financed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
This is reported by NikVesti.
Anatoliy Petrov, the deputy mayor of Mykolaiv, told us in a comment that the renovation of the dormitory began in January 2024 and should be completed by April. All the windows have already been replaced with metal-plastic ones, and work is underway to arrange the walls, ceiling, and floor.
«They have already replaced all the windows and plastered the walls. We still have to paint the walls, install doors and linoleum, as well as baseboards,» said Anatolii Petrov.
He also noted that he does not have information on the cost of repairs, as the IOM provided only a list with the types and scope of works.
«The international organization does not provide specific amounts, we conclude a bilateral agreement, and they provide us with an estimate describing the types and scope of work, but the financial information remains unknown,» explained Anatolii Petrov.
How to settle in a hostel?
Those who need housing must register for housing.
«I would like to note that there are lists and decisions of the commission regarding persons who will be settled. In particular, there are two groups of IDPs: internal (where, for example, a flight arrived in the city and destroyed an apartment and they need a home) and external, that is, those who came from other cities of Ukraine,» explained Anatolii Petrov.
He added that the hostel has 100 rooms, which can accommodate about 200 people.
Will residents be compensated for utilities?
This question remains open, as it is not yet known who will compensate the costs:
«This will be discussed at the commission. It depends on the state, maybe they will compensate with state funds, if not, then we (the city budget, note) will think about how to compensate,» he said.
When will the dormitory be ready for occupancy?
Anatoliy Petrov said that it is not yet possible to determine exactly when the displaced people will be able to move in, since there is no furniture in the dormitory. Responsibility for their provision rests with other organizations, the terms of completion of this process remain uncertain.
«We work in parallel with other organizations regarding the supply of furniture. IOM is only responsible for repair work. Therefore, the settlement will begin only after receiving the furniture. However, at the moment, the exact dates for the completion of this process have not been established,» explained Anatolii Petrov.
We will remind you that in the village of Shevchenkove, Mykolaiv Oblast, a place for temporary residence of IDPs is being built in the premises of the hospital, which was damaged as a result of a Russian airstrike.
