The Navy of Ukraine destroyed the Russian sea minesweeper «Kovrovets»

On Sunday, May 19, the Naval Forces of Ukraine announced the destruction of the Russian sea minesweeper «Kovrovets».
The Navy Command informs about this.
«Tonight, the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroyed a sea minesweeper of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation of project 266-M «Kovrovets». The Naval Forces, together with our comrades, continue to bring us closer to victory,» the message says.
«Kovrovets» is a sea trawler of the 266M project. Its main task is trawling of ships and vessels, reconnaissance and control trawling, laying of corridors in minefields, participation in mining, etc.
This ship entered the Soviet fleet in 1974, and until 1982 it was called «Kursky Komsomolets». Since 1992, it was renamed «Navodchik», and already in 1999 it received its current name.
«Kovrovets» participated in operations in the Atlantic, the Persian Gulf, and patrolled off the coast of Syria. In 2016-2017, the trawler was included in the Mediterranean Fleet of the Russian Federation.
We will remind, on February 14, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the information about the destruction of the large landing ship of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation «Cesar Kunikov» in the Black Sea.
