Bashtanka is planning to build a new public warning system at a cost of ₴1.7 million

The Bashtanka community in the Mykolaiv region is looking to build a new automated centralised public warning system. Local authorities are currently seeking a donor to fund the development of the design and cost estimate documentation for this project.

This information has been published in the DREAM digital system, according to NikVesti.

The cost of developing the construction project for the public warning system is estimated at 210,000 hryvnias. Only after it has been developed will the total construction cost be known.

However, the Bashtanka City Council has already published a preliminary total budget of 1.7 million hryvnias.

The aim is to create a modern system for alerting the public to natural, man-made and military emergencies. The system is intended to ensure the timely transmission of signals and messages to local residents, civil protection services and authorities.

The documentation states that the warning system is needed to improve public safety, enable a rapid response to emergencies and minimise potential losses.

It also states that around 24,500 people live within the project’s coverage area, of whom over 4,000 are internally displaced persons.

As a reminder, work is continuing in the Mykolaiv region to upgrade the regional automated centralised warning system. Since the start of the full-scale war, the number of air-raid sirens in the region has increased by more than a third. During this period, 118 additional sirens have been installed in 90 settlements.

On 1 August 2025, a differentiated air raid warning system for the public came into operation in the Mykolaiv region.

The new system provides for three separate types of alert:

• separately for the city of Mykolaiv,
• separately for the entire region, excluding the regional centre,
• a general alert for the entire region, including Mykolaiv, as was previously the case.

In the Mykolaiv region, air raid alerts were sounded 928 times between the start of 2025 and 30 December. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, sirens in the region have sounded 3,913 times.
