In Mykolaiv, there are plans to repair a section of the road leading to the Novomatviivske Cemetery between Matviivka and Balovne. Around 4 million hryvnias have been allocated for this work in the city’s 2026 budget.

This was announced in a comment to NikVesti by Oleksandr Bereza, head of the Central District administration.

According to him, the city authorities are currently finalising the tender documentation, after which they plan to announce the procurement.

«In the 2026 budget, we have allocated funds for the repair of a section of the road located within Mykolaiv. We are talking about approximately 450 metres. The tender documentation is currently being finalised, so we plan to announce the tender in the near future,» said Oleksandr Bereza.

At the same time, repairing the entire road is complicated by the fact that the other section runs through the territory of the Kostiantynivka community. According to Oleksandr Bereza, this section is effectively a dirt track and is not on the community’s books.

In order for the city to be able to finance its repair and maintain it in the future, it is first necessary to draw up land documentation, officially register the road and transfer it to Mykolaiv for use.

«First, technical documentation for this road must be drawn up; then the Kostiantynivka community must adopt the relevant decisions at a session, and only after that can the issue of transferring the road to the city for repair and maintenance be considered,» he explained.

Another issue remains the development of a turning area for trolleybuses near the cemetery. This area forms part of a private plot of land leased by a legal entity.

According to Oleksandr Bereza, the city authorities are currently exploring possible solutions to this issue — ranging from dividing the plot to purchasing it or leasing part of the land.

He added that repairing the road is important not only for cemetery visitors but also for the operation of public transport.

«The road needs not only to be repaired but also maintained going forward: cleared in winter, gritted, and its condition monitored. That is why it is important for it to be managed by a single responsible body,» noted Oleksandr Bereza.

Yurii Smetana, Director of the municipal enterprise «Mykolaivelektrotrans», also told NikVesti about the poor condition of the road to the Novomatviivske cemetery, which is used by public transport.

«Yes, there is a dirt section of the road near the cemetery, but it is periodically graded and repaired so that transport can pass without hindrance,» said Yurii Smetana.

According to him, this section of the road was additionally graded ahead of the memorial days, as the number of public transport services to the cemetery was increased.

He also added that drivers constantly report problem sections of road on city routes to the company.

«We have a working group where drivers report potholes, open manhole covers or other road problems. We pass this information on to the relevant services, who respond to the best of their ability. This applies to all city routes, not just Matviivka,» explained Yurii Smetana.

It should be noted that the entrance to the Matviivka neighbourhood is in a state of disrepair. Deep potholes and damaged road surfaces have formed a continuous obstacle course here since winter, yet repairs have still not been carried out on this section.
