75 modular homes for doctors and rescue workers have been set up in the Mykolaiv region

Seventy-five modular homes for internally displaced persons have already been installed in eight communities in the Mykolaiv region. Some of these are being provided to doctors, police officers, rescue workers and other specialists whom the communities are trying to recruit.

This was reported by Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during an appearance on «News Live».

He explained that the region has been trying for several years to secure funding for a major housing project to build homes for internally displaced persons. The project involves the construction of 100,000 square metres of housing at a cost of around 4 billion hryvnias.

«We have had a major project in the pipeline since 2023 to build 100,000 square metres of housing for IDPs. It is estimated to cost around 4 billion hryvnias. But so far, there is no funding for it,» said Vitalii Kim.

At the same time, the region, together with international partners, is developing a different housing model — modular settlements within local communities.

Such homes have already been built in eight communities across the region, Vitalii Kim reported.

«Seventy-five modular homes have already been built in eight communities. People are living there. It’s called a ‘modular home’, but it’s better than any of our permanent housing. I’ve been there; it costs money, it’s perfectly decent, and people really love them. We hand over the homes to the communities, and the communities provide them to IDPs with professional qualifications — doctors, police officers and rescue workers. The communities need specialists, and this way they can attract them,» he explained.

A further 50 modular homes are currently being built in four communities. One of the new neighbourhoods has already sprung up in Bashtanka.

«We’re asking for this project to be expanded. The communities really like it. Entire neighbourhoods are springing up. They’re even being named after the countries that are helping with the funding — so they’re called things like Copenhagen, for example. And it immediately becomes a social hub, because as well as the houses themselves, infrastructure for children, sports grounds and so on is being built. This is important for the communities; it’s like a little piece of Europe in the middle of a small community,» said Vitalii Kim.

It was previously reported that a modular settlement for healthcare workers who are internally displaced persons is being built in the village of Kostiantynivka in the Pivdennoukrainsk community.
