Construction work is underway by the river at the yacht club in Mykolaiv. An art installation called «Volia» is set to be erected there.

This was announced in a comment to NikVesti by Mykhailo Nikolaiev, head of the Youth and Sport Department of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration.

Work is currently continuing on the art installation and the surrounding area at the yacht club, including the laying of tiles.

According to Mykhailo Nikolaiev, the project was initiated by the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration. It is being carried out at the regional yacht club, on the grounds of the regional specialised children’s and youth sports school for the Olympic sailing reserve. The school is under the authority of the Regional State Administration’s Department of Youth and Sport.

«No public funds or funds from our international partners were used to implement the «Volia» project. The project is being funded entirely by non-budgetary funds — from patrons and concerned members of the public,» said the head of the regional Department of Youth and Sport.

No opening date has been announced yet.

As a reminder, a public consultation has begun in Mykolaiv regarding the name of the boulevard area along Sadova Street between Spaska Street and Vadym Blahovisnyi Street. There are currently four proposed names for the memorial space, all linked to the memory of those killed, tortured, taken prisoner or missing in action.
