Blogger Pan Roman held a historical discussion about the revolution of 1917-1918 in Mykolaiv

Ukrainian blogger Roman Chykharivskyy, known as Pan Roman, with co-host historian Alina Ponypaliak held a historical conversation «Revolutionary atmosphere in Mykolaiv 1917-1918: how the city helped liberate Ukraine».

The event took place on the stage in the shelter of the Mykolaiv Academic Art Drama Theater as part of the historical project «Street of the History of Ukraine» by the publication «The Village Ukraine», the correspondent of «NikVesti» reports.

Together with the audience, speakers debunked myths about «imperial Mykolaiv», mentioned famous figures and their contribution to the country's development. The main topic of discussion is the role of Nikolaev in the creation of Ukrainian statehood.

Spectators had the opportunity to ask the speakers questions or share interesting facts from the history of the city. And for the most active participants in the conversation, the organizers prepared incentive prizes — books on the history of Ukraine.

— We are visiting 5 cities, we started with Chernihiv, then there were Sumy, Kharkiv, now we are in Mykolaiv, tomorrow we have Odesa. It's like an expedition, a conversation with locals, but our main focus is on the local stories of the cities we visit. We rewarded the most active participants with books by a Ukrainian historian, his surname is Plokhii, — said Roman Chykharivskyy.

Historian Alina Ponypaliak, who, by the way, comes from Mykolaiv, explained why the city became one of the 5 included in the «Street of Ukrainian History» project.

— We tell those pages of history that few people have told about, or that Soviet propaganda, now Russian, uses in its narratives. Our project is designed to change the markers of the «Russian world» in order to return their true history to Ukrainians. We talked about Mykolaiv as a city that actually stood at the forefront of the Ukrainian revolution, what role it played in saving Ukraine and its statehood from the Bolsheviks and the White Guard movement, as well as why Mykolaiv is such an important strategic city both in the past and in the present days, — she said.
