Ukraine can use the F-16 fighters handed over by the Netherlands on the territory of the Russian Federation.
This was stated by the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Netherlands, Onno Eichelsheim, in a comment to the NOS media group, Interfax-Ukraine writes.
The commander of the armed forces of the Netherlands noted that Ukraine can use the resources they provide as it wishes, but under the condition of observing the humanitarian law of war.
«We have not imposed any restrictions on the use and range of the F-16, subject to compliance with the laws of war,» Eichelsheim said during a visit to the United States.
He also called Ukraine's attack on Russian territory «brilliant from a practical point of view.»
«They quickly took over a large area using new methods. Thus, they created a dilemma for Putin... Ukraine must act differently than before, because at the moment the front is static. Therefore, I understand very well from a military-operational point of view that Ukraine is trying to act in this way,» said the commander of the Armed Forces of the Netherlands.
According to Onno Eichelsheim, the question now is how Ukraine can «strategically» use its presence in the Kursk region.
“You can use it as a bargaining chip, then you have to do something with the negotiations... Or you use it to get Russia to withdraw its units from Donbas. We don't see the latter happening, so time will tell to what extent it has a strategic impact,» he added.
It will be recalled that F-16 fighter jets helped repel the most massive Russian air attack on Ukraine on August 26.
