The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski, made a proposal to transfer Crimea under the mandate of the United Nations Organization for the organization of an «honest referendum.»

Radoslav Sikorski said this at the nightcap discussion at the 20th annual meeting of YES in Kyiv, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

Radoslav Sikorski emphasized that Crimea has great symbolic significance for Russia and its leader Vladimir Putin, while for Ukraine the peninsula is strategically important. He believes that it is impossible to reach agreements between the countries without the demilitarization of Crimea.

«We could transfer Crimea under the UN mandate to prepare a fair referendum after checking who are legal residents and so on... And we could postpone it for 20 years,» Radoslav Sikorski noted.

Andrii Yermak, the head of the President's Office, responded to this proposal.

«Crimea is Ukraine. Russia has violated international law and must be held accountable for it,» he wrote on his Telegram page.

We will remind that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the readiness of the Ukrainian victory plan. He said this in an evening video message.

The Japanese news agency Kyodo News, citing a senior government official, reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy's War Victory Plan would include a detailed list of military resources vital to defeating Russia, as well as a request for permission to attack Russian territory with long-range missiles. As Suspilne writes, the plan will also emphasize the need for investments to strengthen the domestic defense potential. It will be presented during a summit with US President Joe Biden at the end of this month, the agency notes.

As Kyodo News writes, Zelensky is expected to visit the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September and present his victory plan to Biden and the two candidates in the US presidential election on November 5, Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

In July 2024, a poll by the Razumkov Center showed that Ukrainians are divided in their views on negotiations with Russia. Most do not agree with Putin's terms.
