The recruiting center of the Ukrainian Legion has opened in Poland. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The first recruiting center opened in Lublin on the basis of the Ukrainian Consulate. The center is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. In the first days, 138 applications for interviews were received through the website and 58 through consular institutions.

«On the basis of the center, there is a military medical commission, which includes doctors and medical personnel with all the necessary equipment for conducting examinations and issuing conclusions on fitness for service. After registration, the training of volunteers will take place at the training ground deployed by the Polish side,» said First Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ivan Havryliuk.

Candidates are invited to an interview with the commander, during which the position is determined, documents are checked and a referral for a medical examination is issued. If the medical board has passed successfully, the volunteer receives the date of signing the contract two weeks after the completion of all checks.

«After signing the contract, the volunteers will go to the training ground for 35 days of training. In the future, servicemen may be sent to improve their skills at one of NATO's European bases for a few more months,» Havryliuk added.

In turn, Polish Minister of Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, in an interview with Wirtualna Polska, talked about the low number of Ukrainians who volunteered for the Legion.

«We are not responsible for recruiting. However, the number of people who had to register from the Ukrainian side is too small,» Kosiniak-Kamysz believes.

He recalled that in July of this year, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an agreement on the creation of the Legion.

The official page reports that the Ukrainian Legion is the first volunteer unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine formed from Ukrainians living abroad. Service in the legion is carried out exclusively on a contractual basis. The unit is being formed on the territory of Poland, training is conducted by NATO instructors on training grounds of partner countries.

Previously, NikVesti reported on plans to create a military unit from Ukrainian volunteers in Poland.
