U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the issue of an agreement on access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals is not currently being considered.

He said this in an interview with CBS's Face the Nation programme.

«I don't know what President Zelensky was thinking about. On Monday, we had French President Emmanuel Macron — a great meeting. On Thursday, we had the Prime Minister (of the United Kingdom), Keir Starmer, who had a fantastic meeting. They all supported the progress of the peace agreement,» Scott Bessent said.

According to him, the President of Ukraine had the opportunity to sign an economic agreement that could have helped deepen cooperation between the United States and Ukraine, but this did not happen.

«All Zelenskyy had to do was to come and sign this economic agreement, thereby reaffirming the complete unity between the Ukrainian and American people. But he decided to destroy it all,» Scott Bessent said.

When asked about the possibility of further negotiations on the deal, he replied that «there is no».

As a reminder, the meeting of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, 28 February, was ended early. The conversation between Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Donald Trump and J.D. Vance in the White House turned to a higher tone.
