The CIA considers Russia's claims of an attack on Putin's residence to be false. Photo: Associated PressThe US Central Intelligence Agency has concluded that Ukraine did not attack the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as previously stated by Russian officials.
This was reported by CNN with reference to American officials.
According to the sources, on 31 December, CIA Director John Ratcliffe passed the relevant intelligence assessment to US President Donald Trump. At the same time, the agency officially refused to comment on these findings.
Donald Trump himself reacted to the situation with restraint. On his social media platform Truth Social, he shared an editorial by the New York Post with the headline «Putin's Talk of «Attack» Shows Russia Is the One Standing in the Way of Peace».
The article notes that the drone attack probably never happened at all. Volodymyr Zelenskyy strongly denied such accusations, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitrii Peskov admitted that the Russian side could not provide any evidence and urged journalists «to take the Kremlin at its word». The authors of the article emphasise that such statements may be fictitious or exaggerated in order to create a pretext for disrupting peace initiatives.
As a reminder, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that on the night of 29 December, Ukraine allegedly attacked the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, the attack took place in the Novgorod region, probably at the residence in Valdai, and 91 drones were allegedly used in the attack.
Ukraine has officially denied these claims. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the information another Russian lie and said that the Kremlin was trying to disrupt progress in relations between Ukraine and the United States. According to him, Russia is not interested in ending the war, and it can only be stopped by increasing pressure on Moscow.
At the same time, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitrii Peskov said that Moscow would rely primarily on dialogue with the United States and threatened to take a tougher negotiating stance.
At the same time, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Russia had not provided any evidence of an attack on Vladimir Putin's residence. Kyiv emphasises that these statements are fiction and part of Russian propaganda.
