Rainwater runoff is damaging a road in Mykolaiv: residents have appealed to the authorities. Photo: Mykolaiv City Council Contact CentreResidents of Mykolaiv have complained about the damaged road on 5th Voienna Street. According to them, following heavy rain, the flow of water began to wash away the tarmac, causing deep potholes to form on the street.
A local resident, Ella Kasianenko, posted a complaint to the Contact Centre at Mykolaiv City Council.
According to residents, near house №78, the municipal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig» installed a pipe to drain rainwater towards the street. After heavy rainfall, water began to flow directly onto the road and damage the surface.
Residents say the worst damage occurred near the point where the water is discharged and further down the slope. Large potholes have appeared there and the asphalt has been partially destroyed.
«The most severe damage has been recorded directly at the point where the water is discharged, as well as on a section approximately one block further down the slope, where significant potholes have also formed. Further down the street (towards building 84), additional damage to the road surface is visible, likely exacerbated by natural rainfall. In the area where the water is discharged and on the adjacent section down the slope, significant damage to the road surface has occurred — potholes up to 30–35 centimetres deep, and the asphalt has been partially destroyed in large chunks, posing a danger to traffic and pedestrians,» the appeal states.
Residents are asking the authorities to repair the road surface and resolve the drainage issue to prevent further damage to the road.
Previously, residents of Mykolaiv had asked for the asphalt to be repaired, which had already been removed three times due to a water main burst on 47 Sevastopolska Street.
