Investigation into the operations of «Mykolaivkomuntrans»
In October, it emerged that an investigation was underway into the possible illegal removal of waste from the municipal landfill site, its sorting and the sale of recyclable materials. According to the investigation, officials from «Mykolaivkomuntrans» may have been involved in the scheme.
As reported by Nikcenter, citing a ruling by the Novo-Odesa District Court, investigators believe that Andrii Vetsalo may have organised the illegal use of waste from the landfill, whilst the landfill manager may have facilitated its uncontrolled removal.
According to the investigation, the waste was transported by lorry to a sorting site near the village of Zarichne. The sorted recyclable materials were sold to commercial enterprises, and investigators suspect that part of the proceeds may have been shared amongst those involved in the scheme.
As part of the proceedings, law enforcement officers carried out searches at the company’s administrative offices, at the landfill site and at the homes of the officials and the businessman. The court authorised the seizure of the documents and mobile phones that had been confiscated.
Separately, the head of the municipal landfill, Pavlo Priamkov, was served with a notice of suspicion in connection with air pollution. This relates to a fire in September 2023, when household waste burned across an area of approximately three thousand square metres. According to environmentalists’ estimates and the findings of the expert assessment, the damage to the environment exceeded 700,000 гривень.
Previously, Andrii Vetsalo had also been publicly at odds with the former director of «Mykolaivpastrans», Dmytro Teslenko.
The row broke out on Facebook under a post in which Dmytro Teslenko criticised the appointment of Dmytro Danilenko as the new head of «Mykolaivpastrans». In response, Andrii Vetsalo accused Dmytro Teslenko of misconduct whilst working at the company, resorting to insults, foul language and threats.
Andrii Vetsalo also suggested that Dmytro Teslenko settle the matter in person at the birthday celebration for the mayor, Oleksandr Sienkevych.
