56 countries condemned Russia's attempts to hold «elections» in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
This was reported by the permanent representation of Ukraine at the UN.
The statement was signed by representatives of 56 states. The list includes, in particular, Argentina, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.
«Conducting elections on the territory of another UN member state without its consent is a clear disregard for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Such elections have no legal force in accordance with international law,» the statement said.
The signatories also called on other countries and international organizations not to recognize any change in the status of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as the Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk or Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine and to «refrain from any actions or agreements that could be interpreted as recognizing any such changed status».
We will remind that on Friday evening the Security Council of the United Nations is meeting to discuss Russia's illegitimate attempt to hold presidential elections in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the Russian Federation is preparing to falsify «elections» in the occupied territories, the Kremlin plans to attract students and «volunteers» to support Vladimir Putin.
