The first batch of ammunition was delivered to Ukraine as part of the Czech initiative to purchase ammunition for the country.
Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala wrote about this in X.
According to him, the projectiles arrived in Ukraine «some time ago».
«The first batch of ammunition from our initiative arrived in Ukraine some time ago. We do everything that depends on us,» wrote Petr Fiala.
Czech initiative
As you know, more than 15 countries cooperate with the Czech initiative. In addition, in March, the Ramstein-style meeting noted that the Czech initiative has inspired two other countries that want to follow the same approach as the Czech Republic, i.e. purchase ammunition from non-EU and non-NATO countries through bilateral cooperation with donor countries. They have managed to find other possible supplies of ammunition and are now looking for partners to pay for the supplies.
In February, Czech President Petr Pavel announced that the country had found sources of supply of 800,000 shells for Ukraine from abroad. However, the delivery process requires financing.
It recently became known that Western partners have already collected funds for the purchase of 300,000 projectiles for Ukraine at the initiative of the Czech Republic.
After that, the Czech Republic received preliminary approval for the purchase of an additional 200,000 shells in addition to the purchase of 300,000 artillery ammunition.
Earlier, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, said that within the framework of the Czech initiative, they will be able to deliver 1.5 million artillery shells to Ukraine within a year.
