The Government of Ukraine has determined the details of providing the population with means of personal protection in the event of a nuclear attack.

According to Cabinet Resolution No. 936 of August 16, 2024, the unemployed population, including persons with disabilities of the I and II groups, pensioners and children under 16 years of age, will be provided with filtering gas masks. These measures will be implemented by local authorities, which will create reserves in accordance with legislation.

Provision of employees who fall under the category of civil protection will be carried out at the expense of enterprises. If the workers are involved in civil protection, the means will be provided by local authorities or enterprises.

Employees of state bodies will be provided with gas masks at the expense of the state budget, and local authorities — at the expense of local budgets.

The creation of plans, points of issue and special teams is provided for the organization of the issuance of protective equipment. Issuance will be carried out free of charge, without the need for return. The government document defines the responsible persons and sources of funding for the protection of the population in case of emergency situations related to the nuclear threat.

As a reminder, Ukraine is among the countries with the lowest level of fear of nuclear threats. This is evidenced by the results of an international survey by the Gallup International research institute, which was conducted at the end of 2023.
