In Mykolaiv, the coastline of the Namyv microdistrict continues to collapse. Due to erosion, the width of the beach zone decreases.
Viktor Dmytruk, the head of the factory district of Mykolaiv, told about this in a comment to NikVesti.
We will remind that in December of last year, a part of the coastline collapsed on Namyv. At that time, the city council promised that they would seek funds for coastal fortification from international donors.
NikVesti turned to the administration of the district to find out at what stage the search for funding is now and whether the condition of the coastline has deteriorated during this time.
«I'm not an expert and I can only tell by visually observing what is happening there. Currently, erosion is taking its toll, the width of the beach zone on Namyv is decreasing, so I believe that it is necessary to bring it to a logical conclusion and build breakwaters. I believe that this issue is a pressing issue for the city's residents, said the head of the administration,» Viktor Dmytruk.
He said that so far it was not possible to find funds for shore fortification, but the last meetings of the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych with donors give hope that in the near future it will be possible to carry out strengthening works.
«Now there is really an active search for donors who can be involved in this. Moreover, I will say that the last meetings of our mayor with donors showed that there is a high probability that such organizations will be found that will finance this. After all, this concerns the ecology and life activity of a fairly large microdistrict of the city,» said Viktor Dmytruk.
As for the cost of the works, it is currently difficult to estimate the exact amount needed for coastal fortification.
«What is the cost now, it is impossible to say exactly, because you yourself understand that the project of 2020 and 2024 are different things,» said Viktor Dmytruk.
We will remind, in February 2022, it was reported that 48 million hryvnias would be needed to strengthen the coastline of the Namyv microdistrict, but there were no funds for this in the city budget.
Two years before, in November 2020, the mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych promised that the strengthening of the coastline would begin in 2021.
Journalists showed the results of the destruction of the coastline of the Namyv microdistrict in June 2018. Then the water took away several meters of the beach, and the foundations of high-rise buildings began to sink.
In the same year, residents of Namyv began to sound the alarm that water was washing away the coastline. On this occasion, a meeting was held in Mykolaiv City Hall, where the possible implementation of the coastal fortification project, the improvement of the beach strip and the sanitary condition of the territory were discussed.
In addition, in 2016, the Department of Housing and Communal Services announced tenders for the development of the Namyv coastal fortification project worth 416,000 hryvnias. For this, they planned to build an embankment. Then the company «DBK-Proekt», with which the contract was signed and which developed the coastal fortification project, won the bidding.
In October 2019, it became known that the Department of Capital Construction of the Mykolaiv City Council will spend 1 million 472 thousand 340 hryvnias on the development of a project to strengthen the Namyv's coastline. Later, the head of the Ukrainian Design Bureau, Hryhorii Patoka, explained that the need to develop a second project is related to a change in certain norms in construction.
