On Friday, October 11, the newly appointed head of the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Serhii Sukhomlyn, arrived in Mykolaiv. Together with the city authorities, they resolved the issue of restoring the drinking water supply in the city.
Serhii Sukhomlyn reported that during the meeting various technical solutions were worked out so that Mykolaiv would receive clean water next year.
«We are already starting work. We must implement the project quickly enough, but at the same time, neither quality nor transparency should suffer. And the cost of project implementation should be clear and stable,» he said.
The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, said that the water supply restoration project is divided into several parts: the construction of a new water pipeline and the modernization of the existing Mykolaivvodokanal treatment facilities.
«Due to the fact that the water indicators on the Dnipro River, after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP, have changed, it is necessary to build our water treatment systems according to the latest standards. In addition, it is necessary to use water from other reservoirs,» the mayor wrote.
In addition, together with the French company EgIS, in the near future, the city will receive a technical and economic feasibility study for the construction of treatment facilities of Mykolaivvodokanal.
«It is important to understand that the main issue is not only finding financing and paying for the construction itself. For us, the most important thing is that the people of Mykolaiv do not pay exorbitant prices for water supply and drainage after that,» Oleksandr Sienkevych added.
Serhii Sukhomlyn also emphasized that Mykolaiv residents should receive not just water supply, but quality water that will meet sanitary requirements.
«Building a water main and providing water to Mykolaiv is not yet a finished process. Only after the water has passed through the treatment plants will it be considered suitable for consumption. That is why, parallel progress of these two processes, understanding of terms of construction of treatment facilities, timely technical decisions were made in order to implement the project on time,» Serhii Sukhomlyn wrote.
We will remind you that the President's Office is looking for a «form of cooperation» with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, so that they will provide funds for the construction of a new water main for Mykolaiv.
