Mykolaiv took fourth place in Ukraine in terms of air pollution, — rating

In the rating of Ukrainian cities with the most polluted air, the city of Mykolaiv took fourth place.
This became known from the review of the state of environmental pollution on the territory of Ukraine for the first half of 2023 by the Central Geophysical Observatory named after Borys Sreznevskyy.
Based on data from the observation network of the National Hydrometeorological Service of Ukraine, the cities with the dirtiest air were singled out.
Among the leaders: Dnipro, Kamianske, Odesa, Mykolaiv. In these cities, the level of air pollution was characterized as high according to the comprehensive index of atmospheric pollution (CIPA).
Specialists note that the level of pollution is caused by the concentrations of formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, phenol, hydrogen fluoride, carbon monoxide, suspended solids, etc., the review states.
In 2020, the air quality index in Mykolaiv reached a level harmful to humans.
The Mykolaiv Alumina Plant, Yugcement and the gas transportation system operator Mykolaivgaz became the biggest air polluters in 2021.
It should be noted that the situation with the largest air pollutants in the Mykolayiv region persists from year to year. In particular, according to 2018 data, the biggest air polluters in the region were Mykolaiv Alumina Plant, Yugcement enterprise and Mykolaivgaz.
Yugcement (former Olshan Cement Plant) is the largest cement plant in Southern Ukraine with a design capacity of more than 1.25 million tons of cement per year, according to the company's official website.
