«We haven't touched these funds yet», — said the director of the Mykolaiv Zoo about savings for difficult times

International partners helped the Mykolaiv Zoo to accumulate certain savings in order to be able to continue working in case of withdrawal of money from the city budget.

The deputy of the city council and the director of the Mykolaiv Zoo, Volodymyr Topchyi, told about this in the program at the MART television channel.

Volodymyr Topchyi notes that there are no final figures for the city budget for next year, but it is already clear that the year will be difficult. However, the zoo has certain funds that will help it survive difficult times.

— I haven't seen any numbers yet, so I can't say anything. I think that with the budget that will be, the zoo will live and it will not be closed and the townspeople will not allow it to be done. There were significantly fewer people, and therefore significantly less money. All this applies to next year's budget. We have some reserve of funds, I do not hide it. We made this reserve thanks to the help of our colleagues in Europe, and we have not yet touched these funds. When we see the numbers, then we can talk about something. Today I understand that it will be very difficult,» — he says

In addition, the Mykolaiv Zoo will receive compensation from the city budget for maintenance, maintenance and repairs of water purification systems. Volodymyr Topchyi notes that payments under the «Available Water» program are insignificant and the zoo can do without them.

— These are such insignificant funds for the Mykolaiv Zoo that it is not worth talking about. We have been servicing this installation for more than a year and have never asked anyone for funds. When I found out that the zoo was not included in this program, I raised a question and at the last session we were added to this program, but the program is not working yet. In November, we need to clean the filters and carry out repairs. If the compensation will not work, then we will do it ourselves, — he notes.

Earlier, the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Mykolaiv City Council noted that there were difficulties with compensation under the «Available Water» program due to the lack of a payment mechanism. There they assured that at present this issue has been fully worked out.

We will remind that in June 2023 , deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council approved the «Affordable Water» program on the second attempt. It was planned to allocate 37.6 million hryvnias from the city budget for its implementation in 2023. These funds were to be spent on the maintenance of reverse osmosis stations, of which there are currently 145 in Mykolaiv.

Earlier it was also reported that the water under the «Affordable Water» program is not potable.

Dmytro Falko, the secretary of Mykolaiv city council, said that in Mykolaiv after the war, the city council plans to create a utility company that will take care of the purified water points, service them and sell water to the population. At the same time, the cost of a liter of water, according to preliminary calculations, can be 20 kopecks.
