An educational camp for high school students of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions was held in Zakarpattia

101 high school students from the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions attended the educational Catch-up Camp «Victory Generation» in Transcarpathia. The camp was conducted by the GoGlobal educational foundation with the support of the CEMARK company, the organizers said.

For 11 days, the teenagers studied under the guidance of qualified coaches and mentors. In particular, the camp program included preparation for NMT, classes in mathematics, Ukrainian and English languages, as well as art therapy.

«I came here very excited and I was not disappointed. I really like the interactive classes and how they develop our communication skills. My two favorite subjects are Ukrainian and English. Also, the camp focuses on topics that are difficult for students. The most difficult subject for me is mathematics — and here I make up for what I still did not understand,» says Yelizaveta Sokor, a participant of the camp from Kherson.

In addition to classical studies, high school students also improved their soft skills, mastered design thinking, developed creativity and participated in various activities.

Sofiia Shevchenko from the Voskresenske Territorial Community in the Mykolaiv Oblast says that she really liked the format of such training. «The teachers are very cool, they explained complex topics to us in an accessible and interactive way. The ascent to Lake Synevyr was always memorable, it was difficult to go up, but very interesting and fun,» Sofiia says.

«To be honest, learning is usually difficult for me, but at the camp those topics that always seemed super difficult and incomprehensible to me are given with a bang,» shares Ivan Kobylko, a participant of the camp from the village of Novovorontsovka, Kherson region. But he adds that he will miss those he met in the camp: both friends and even teachers.

The main goal of the «Victory Generation» Catch-up Camp is to help high school students socialize and catch up on missed learning material. Because of the pandemic and the full-scale war, many teenagers did not have the opportunity to live with their peers and teachers. This is especially relevant for children from the frontline and de-occupied territories, say the organizers of the camp.

«I liked the way we came up with design thinking, how to make a new and different toothbrush. And the way we talked about our feelings in soft skills classes. Training at the camp managed to tighten up a little, and I will say that the live training format is the best,» said Yuliia Ishchuk from Mykolaiv.

According to Oleksii, a mathematics teacher at Catch Up Camp «Victory Generation», this project is very useful, because it helps children make up for educational losses.

«I don't believe that in eight classes the students can learn everything that they haven't learned so far. But I know for sure that during this time it is possible to show schoolchildren that mathematics can be simple and interesting and to make them fall in love with the subject so that they continue to study it further,» says Oleksii.

CEMARK, the main partner of the camp, believes that children are the future of Ukraine. That is why the company supports young people, cooperates with technical schools, colleges and universities to find and develop young talents. In particular, students of vocational and technical educational institutions have the opportunity to complete an internship at the company and, subject to its successful completion, to join the team. Practice for university students is broader and lasts the whole year. During this time, its participants get acquainted with business and production processes, undergo training, learn English and have the opportunity to develop and implement their own project.

«Our Catch-up camp is an opportunity for children to return to offline learning for at least two weeks, improve their knowledge and be in a circle of peers. And we are very grateful that there are socially responsible businesses that invest in education. After all, today's teenagers are the future employees of these companies and the future of our country. That's why we have to look for different approaches and ways to help schoolchildren acquire the knowledge they so need,» says the director of the GoGlobal educational foundation, Tetiana Kovryha.

GoGlobal is an educational foundation that creates opportunities for the younger generation. The focus is on making up for educational losses, mentoring and psycho-emotional support, popularizing ESTEAM education and learning English.
