The number of frauds decreased by 16% in the Mykolaiv region

In the Mykolayiv region during 8 months of 2024, law enforcement officers registered 1,957 frauds, which is 16% less than in the same period of 2023 (2,326 offenses).

Ihor Kucheruk, head of the organizational and methodological department of the Investigative Department of the Police in the Mykolaiv Region, informed about this during the briefing, NikVesti writes.

At the same time, according to law enforcement officers, the detection of crimes related to fraud increased by 43%.

«During the 8 months of the current year, investigators reported suspicion of 605 criminal offenses, during the same period last year only 347 were reported. We can see that the reduction in the number of criminal offenses increases the percentage of their disclosure,» said Ihor Kucherchuk.

According to him, 70% of the total number of frauds are crimes related to the use of information technologies. The most popular of them are related to receiving various services in social networks.

«If we talk about frauds using high information technologies, then in the current year, 842 such procedures were registered, which is almost 70% of the total number. The most popular types of fraud are frauds under the pretext of providing services in social networks or providing online help,» the policeman said.

We will remind that in 2023 the number of frauds increased by 139% compared to 2022. The law enforcement officers emphasized that the situation with the growth of cybercrime was observed throughout Ukraine. They connected this with the state of war and the socio-economic situation in which the citizens of the country found themselves.
