Sold fuel for more than ₴1.2 million: a military official is suspected in the Mykolaiv region

In the Mykolaiv region, an official of one of the military units is suspected of organizing a multimillion-dollar scheme to earn money on fuel, which was intended for the needs of the military in the Kharkiv direction. The man faces up to 15 years in prison.
As reported by the State Bureau of Investigation, during 2023-2024, the deputy commander of the military unit falsified documentation on the amount of fuel used, exaggerating the indicators, and then sold the remaining fuel.
The official involved two subordinate servicemen who drained and removed the fuel, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Southern region said.
According to the law enforcement officers, based only on documented facts, the official managed to sell almost 25 tons of diesel fuel, receiving more than 1 million 200 thousand hryvnias for it.
The man was detained on September 19 after receiving payment for the next tranche of fuel and reported on suspicion of theft and appropriation of military property committed under martial law (Part 4 of Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article is punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment.
Currently, he has been remanded in custody with the possibility of a bail of 2,001,508 hryvnias.
Note: in accordance with Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of committing a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until his guilt is proven in a legal manner and established by a court verdict.
It will be recalled that the law enforcement officers reported the suspicion to the head of the Mykolaiv apartment management department. He is suspected of conspiring with a private entrepreneur and embezzling almost 10 million hryvnias allocated for defense.
